The Total Lunar Eclipse of 2021

This week brings us a total lunar eclipse! It will be visible for everyone from western North America to Southeast Asia. So, to our friends down under, that includes you!

For us in the Methow, the total eclipse will be well before moon set, about 4:19 am Pacific time. Fortunately, its a multi hour affair, so set those alarm clocks!

If you’re in western North America, you’ll find the moon tracking with Scorpius, rising earlier in the evening from the southeast followed by the bright star Antares. Depending on your location, you might catch the whole of Scorpius near the eclipse. The full moon will be right in the mouth of the scorpion.
